Subject: Dawn Approach Lifts Godolphin Gloom

After a difficult fortnight for Sheikh Mohammad and Godolphin racing he was at Newmarket to see his horse Dawn Approach win the first classic of the flat season, the 2000 Guineas.

The unbeaten 11-8 favourite cruised home to victory by five lengths under the hands of jockey Kevin Manning to give trainer Jim Bolger his first win in the race.

150-1 long shot Glory Awaits came home in second place with Van Der Neer third.

Bolger said: "He was very impressive, we're very happy with him and he galloped right to the line. I don't know about the Derby, Sheikh Mohammed and myself said we would sleep on it and take it from there.

"If he wants to go, I'd be very happy to. We have to see how he comes out of this but he's hardy and I'm sure he'll be fine. I'm sure he can only improve from here as that's his first time on a racecourse this year."

Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind behind the Godolphin operation, was making his first trip to the Newmarket track since trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni was banned for eight years by the British Horseracing Authority for 15 of his horses testing positive for anabolic steroids.

He said: "I always face a challenge. I'm very, very happy to come and see a good horse winning the Guineas and I think he is a great horse."
